Freedom Day Celebration: Art and the End of Apartheid
Overview
In July 2012, Africa International House (AIH) hosted a special event titled "Freedom Day Celebration: Art and the End of Apartheid." This program offered an artist’s perspective on the profound social and political changes that marked the end of apartheid in South Africa.
Featured Exhibition
The exhibition showcased a total of twenty works by South African artists. It was thoughtfully curated to represent significant eras in the country’s history:
-
Ten paintings from the apartheid era
-
Ten paintings from post-apartheid South Africa
Through these artworks, visitors were invited to reflect on the impact of apartheid and the transformative spirit that emerged in its aftermath.
